Customer Spotlight: MSS Security upgrades to modern backup

MSS Security is an Australian personnel security provider with more than 6,000 employees across the continent.

They were growing fast, and their on-premises disc-based backup solution wasn’t able to keep up.

In addition to those direct costs, the solution started taking much more time to manage. Firmware and software updates had to be scheduled overnight, with personnel present to supervise, in order to avoid potentially costly disruptions. And like many other companies, they were dedicating an unacceptable amount of IT time and resources to administering data backup.

Once their existing vendor agreement came up for renewal, Daroch and his team began looking for alternative solutions.

MSS Security ended up choosing two Barracuda solutions deployed in tandem:

• Barracuda Backup deployed on-premises with both cloud and off-site replication to protect data stored in their colocation data center
• Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud Backup deployed as a SaaS solution to protect all data in their Microsoft 365 environment, including Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, Groups, and Teams.

Australian law requires this type of data to be stored in Australia, so another meaningful benefit of the Barracuda solutions was the ability to ensure that all cloud backups are stored in Barracuda cloud storage centers located within Australia.
