Enhance your WAN with Teridion
Barracuda has partnered with Teridion to enhance its network and cloud security solutions with a cloud-agnostic wide-area network (WAN) connectivity solution.
The Teridion solution
Teridion is a provider of an ultra-fast software-defined global WAN-as-a-service (WANaaS) solution that solves secure connectivity challenges for organizations that require large-scale and international connectivity. The global Teridion network features more than 500 points of presence (PoPs) and more than 2,000 Smart AI routers that sense and tune for availability, throughput, latency, and jitter parameter optimization. Teridion’s AI WAN is built on an elastic network architecture and works with more than 25 global cloud providers including Amazon, Azure, and Google. It delivers real-time, compliant traffic scaling around the world, including inside and outside of China.
Barracuda SecureEdge in use for wide-area networking
The Teridion WANaaS network integrates perfectly with Barracuda SecureEdge deployments in hybrid and cloud environments.
Barracuda SecureEdge is a modern cloud-native Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) platform with the primary purpose of securely connecting corporate premises, users on and off the corporate network, and public cloud services and instances. Besides comprehensive Firewall-as-a-Service (FWaaS) security to protect a company’s infrastructure and intellectual property along with a Zero Trust Network Access solution for seamless application access from anywhere in the world, SecureEdge includes the most sophisticated Secure SD-WAN technology, which is used to establish redundant connectivity between dispersed on-premises locations and cloud infrastructure.
Traditionally, SecureEdge deployments use a combination of regular business internet connections, private MPLS networks, and mobile data networks for fallback. Built-in SD-WAN technology automatically optimizes uplink traffic across up to 16 lines simultaneously, even using multiple uplinks for encrypted tunnels.
In organizations with a large geographic footprint, the requirement for fast application performance and data transfer times across all company locations, multiple clouds, and employees literally working from anywhere on the globe can become a painfully challenging and exorbitantly costly project — especially when deploying and managing offerings from various ISPs and MPLS networks. When ISPs in various countries are involved, setting up connectivity can be a project for several months or even years.
Barracuda SecureEdge and Teridion AI WAN are addressing these pain points while being easy to deploy and afford. The idea is a software-defined WAN based on connectivity offerings from different ISPs and cloud providers. Teridion has already incorporated Smart AI-based networking solutions and offers its customers a hassle-free solution that is easy to acquire and use. Administrators do not have to worry about contracts and can sleep well because the Teridion Smart AI routing software takes care of the path selection, resulting in LAN-like network performance even across multiple continents.
How it works
Both the cloud-based SecureEdge and the on-premises Barracuda hardware and virtual devices can establish secure connections to Teridion PoPs for high-performance connectivity between corporate premises and cloud environments. Barracuda SecureEdge makes intent-based decisions on which traffic is destined for the Teridion backbone.
Use cases
The joint offering works best for organizations with one or more of the following requirements:
- Locations across a large geographic area: To get the most out of the backbone WAN, several company locations must be attached to at least two different Teridion PoPs. That’s usually the case if there is a certain difference between each of these, such as organizations that have presences on the East Coast and West Coast in the U.S., or several countries in Europe or Asia.
- Cost reduction by MPLS replacement: If private MPLS lines are in use for long-distance connectivity, the cost of those connections should be evaluated. Generally, other options are more flexible and cost-efficient. Sometimes, MPLS can remain part of the network strategy as a backup connection.
- Hybrid and multi-cloud: In heavily dispersed environments with users, sites, and multiple cloud services from different vendors, it can be challenging to keep an overview. While this sounds complicated, it is a reality for many organizations. Especially if some redundant connections and traffic shaping are required, the Barracuda and Teridion combination helps with connectivity optimization.
- Reliable China connectivity: Many organizations have issues establishing secure and encrypted connections to China. Businesses that operate there and are looking to protect their intellectual property but also need some reliability should consider Barracuda and Teridion.
Better together
Barracuda SecureEdge and Teridion AI WAN leverage the best of each other. Both offer simple web-based administration and powerful automation of most tasks.
