Leading nonprofit keeps security infrastructure up to date
The Cerebral Palsy Alliance (CPA) in Australia and Barracuda go way back. And the way that their infrastructure has evolved over time mirrors overall trends in the security landscape in a way that’s instructive. Get the whole story here.
From on-prem to the cloud
When Senior Solutions Architect Roger Spraggon joined CPA in 2011, the on-prem Exchange server was protected by a Barracuda email gateway appliance. Spraggon and his team added a Barracuda Message Archiver appliance in 2013, which supported and streamlined compliance efforts.
“It’s incredibly useful … whether it’s an internal request from HR regarding a past employee, or a matter of complying with legal requests related to a Commission, [Barracuda Message Archiver] really has helped us across the board with all that.”
— Roger Spraggon, Senior Solutions Architect, Cerebral Palsy Alliance
As advanced capabilities became available in cloud-delivered SaaS format, CPA took the opportunity to upgrade to Barracuda Email Protection including Cloud Archiving Service.
And once CPA migrated to Microsoft 365, they were able to take full advantage of the entire Email Protection platform, including AI-powered email security, Incident Response, Domain Fraud Protection (DMARC automation), and Cloud-to-Cloud Backup.
“After moving to Microsoft 365, we didn’t have anything backing up our data in SharePoint and OneDrive. So implementing Cloud-to-Cloud Backup was a great relief, since we’re no longer in danger of permanently losing any data.”
— Nathan Lightfoot, CTO, Cerebral Palsy Alliance
From à la carte to platform
Spraggon and Lightfoot are not only keeping up with technology advances. They’re also an example of the industry’s overall trend toward more consolidated, platform-based approaches to IT security.
“It’s really just been a natural progression. For a while we were adding on different solutions in an à la carte manner, and more recently as Barracuda has been integrating those pieces into a whole platform, we’ve chosen to go that route.”
— Nathan Lightfoot, CTO, Cerebral Palsy Alliance
It seems to be working:
“Ultimately, that peace of mind and sense of security is one of the key reasons we’ve stayed with Barracuda for so long. The products just work, and we know they’ll go on working.”
— Nathan Lightfoot, CTO, Cerebral Palsy Alliance
