Your complete guide to the 2024 Barracuda Championship
Every summer, golf enthusiasts from near and far gather to witness the excitement and camaraderie of our highly anticipated annual golf tournament. The 26th annual Barracuda Championship is an official PGA TOUR event in collaboration with the DP World Tour, and it is operated by a nonprofit organization, the Reno-Tahoe Open Foundation. Ten years ago, 2014 marked the beginning of Barracuda's title sponsorship for this PGA tournament.
This year, the event is scheduled to take place in Truckee, California, from July 15 to 21 at Tahoe Mountain Club’s Old Greenwood, a scenic 600-acre course where the competition has been held for the past four years. The 18-hole course is a Jack Nicklaus signature design, and the championship itself follows a Modified Stableford scoring format, a one of a kind on the PGA TOUR.
A look at the prize and competitors
With 156 professional golfers taking the stage this year, each athlete will compete for their share of a $4 million purse, 300 FedExCup points, and 4,250 DPWTR points, with the winner taking home $720,000. When the tournament, initially named the Reno-Tahoe Open, commenced in 1999, it featured a purse of $2.75 million, and the payout for the 2024 season will be the largest one to date since the championship’s inception.
Among the players confirmed to be competing this year include Cameron Champ, Daniel Berger, and Nick Hardy. Cameron and Nick both participated in past Barracuda Championships and will be returning once again, while Daniel will be taking part for the first time since 2019. The reigning champion is currently Akshay Bhatia, who defeated Patrick Rodgers in a playoff in the 2023 tournament.
