Everything you need to know about the 2023 Barracuda Championship
Golf season is upon us, which means that the 2023 Barracuda Championship has returned! The championship is one of 47 stops on the PGA TOUR, and it’s scheduled to take place from July 17 to 23. This year’s tournament will be held at Tahoe Mountain Club’s Old Greenwood Golf Course in Truckee, California for the fourth year in a row. With nearly 600 acres of towering pine trees and scenic views of the Sierra Nevada mountains, the Old Greenwood is considered the fifth-best course in the U.S., according to GolfPass. The suburban-style signature course is designed by former golfer Jack Nicklaus. Old Greenwood is 6,000 feet above sea level, so golf balls generally travel higher and faster due to the thinner air.
2011 Barracuda Championship winner, Scott Piercy, will be competing in this year’s tournament once again, along with Justin Suh and Ryan Palmer, who are also returning participants. Vaughn Taylor and J.J. Henry are the only players that have won twice throughout Barracuda Championship history. A total of 156 players will be competing for a $3.8 million purse. A Modified Stableford format will be used again this year instead of the traditional scoring system, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.
